Steve Burkhart enters his 16th season as head coach of the women's volleyball team. Over the 12 years "Burkhart" and his Lady Raiders have put up some impressive records. The 1996, 2000, 2001, 2002, and 2003 teams were Western State Conference Champions, with each team qualifying for the "Elite 8" California Community College State Tournament. The 2000 team finished 3rd in the tournament with the 2001 and 1996 teams finishing 5th and 6th respectively. His peers have named Coach Burkhart Western State Conference Coach of the Year three times. Over the past 9 years, the Lady Raiders have never had a losing season. Since 1996,The Lady Raiders have been ranked in the top ten each year.

Born and raised in Chicago, Coach prepped at Wankegan HS, went on to Northern Illinois University. After graduating from college, he started his coaching career at Glenhard West HS in Chicago. In 6 years he led the school to 3 conference titles, 3 Final Four appearances in the Illinois State High School Tournament, and an Illinois State High School Title in 1983. Also, Coach was named Illinois State High School Coach of the Year.

Being an avid golfer and tired of playing in the snow, Coach Burkhart moved out west to Ventura County in 1986, settling in Ventura. He was immediately hired at Buena HS as the Boys and Girls Volleyball coach. His 1990 Girl's team were Channel League Champions. In 1991 Moorpark College came calling.

In Ventura County, the name "Burkhart" means Volleyball. He also coined the phrase "HUUUGE" which is used daily in the Moorpark College Athletic Department.

Burkhart and wife Melinda reside in Ventura.
