The Moorpark College Athletic Department has renamed the Scholar Athlete of the Year Scholarship to the Jim Moore Scholar Athlete of the Year Scholarship to honor the first Athletic Director in school history. Moore passed away March 28th. (see below). Those interested in donating to the scholarship can make checks payable to the MC Foundation and mailed to Moorpark College Athletics. Summer Camps Announced. The MC Athletic Department is pleased to announce their summer camp lineup. Coach Steve Burkhart's ever popular volleyball camp is back. Coach Aaron Jackson's Raider wrestling camp also returns. Basketball is being finalized at press time. Volleyball Flyer.
Track and Field finish 1st and 4th at WSC Finals. The Raider Men's Track team won their 8th straight WSC Championship, while the women's team finished in 4th place.
Men's Golf 1st at Southern Cal Finals Tournament. The Raiders did it the hard way, but won the team title in the Southern California Community College Championship at The Country Club at Soboba Springs in San Jacinto. With the best five of six scores each round counting for the team total, the Raiders totaled 735 to finish six shots in front of a trio of schools: Cypress College, College of the Canyons, and Saddleback College. However, the Raiders won with only five players because Jason Franklin had to withdraw due to illness. Thus, every Moorpark score counted for each round. "That's an amazing feat," said one opposing coach. "My hat's off to them." the Raiders shot 365 in the morning, led by Rudy Estrada's 2-under-par 70, backed up by 73s from Sean Elverum, Aaron Smith and Alex Ruggieri, and a 75 from Ben Barrow. In the afternoon, Smith posted a 2-under-par 70 and Elverum chipped in with a 71 and although the Raiders slipped to a 371 total it was good enough for the victory. The Raiders will next try for the California State Community College Championship to be held May 12 at The SCGA Golf Course in Murrieta.
First Moorpark College Athletic Director Passes. James Moore Jr. passed away peacefully March 28th. Jim Moore became the first Athletic Director ever at Moorpark College in 1967. During his tenure at Moorpark, he became to be known as "Big Daddy" among the staff he put together in starting the athletic program at Moorpark. more
The Moorpark College Foundation has set up a memorial scholarship in the name of Dave Klinzing to annually assist any graduating student/ trainer transferring to a 4 year school. "Big" Dave tragically lost his life 2/26/04 on his way to school. He had been studying to be an athletic trainer.
