Some believe that science and religion are in conflict. The long history of this belief goes back as far as the heresy trial of Galileo for teaching scientific theory that contradicted religious dogma. Contemporary debates including intelligent design and stem cell research are relevant to Moorpark College students and staff, for they come up in classes as well as in discussions with friends and families. This year-long dialogue in understanding will address these and other debates by providing a framework for looking at the relationship between science and religion.

Science and Religion in the News
"In the spirit of collegiality, unity and enhanced learning through attention to a single theme, some aspects of Moorpark College life in 2006-2007 will be focused on the theme of the relationship of science and religion. All are welcome to the dialogue."
- Philosophy Professor Janice Daurio
"For the first time in the history of Moorpark College, a common theme will provide an orientation point for many aspects of campus life. Guest speakers, learning communities, lectures and perfor-mances will provide opportunities for understanding and reevaluating the ways in which we look at these two important sources of human knowledge."
- Anthropology Professor John Baker
