Note-taking
Assistance
Students must be registered
with ACCESS and have authorization for note-taking assistance on
file.
The use of a tape recorder
is strongly suggested as an independent form of note-taking assistance;
however, the instructor must always be informed before you begin
to use a tape recorder. Please be aware that if a classroom discussion
becomes sensitive and the use of a recorder inhibits the educational
process, the instructor may ask to have the recording temporarily
discontinued until content material is again being presented. Instructors
may request that you erase all tapes at the conclusion of the semester.
If you require a note-taker
we will request that the instructor ask for a volunteer from the
class. Many Moorpark students are willing to do this because it
encourages them to take better notes themselves. We suggest that
instructors make this request either privately or without identifying
the student needing notes to the class. ACCESS will supply NCR notepaper
or note-copying services.
Note-taking is not a
substitute for attending class or taking your own notes.
Notes need only be provided for classes that you actually attend.
Procedure
*Request a Confidential Memo to take to your instructor that will
authorize your use of a tape recorder.
*Request a Note-taker Memo and a Confidential Memo to take to your
instructor that will authorize your use of a note-taker.
*Meet with the volunteer note-taker to arrange for the note exchange.
*Let your instructor or ACCESS know if your note-taker drops or
isn't working out.
