SPRING 2003
This is a two-unit course meeting on Tuesday and Thursday from 1:00-1:50
plus two additional hours per week for a total of 4 hours per week,
in the ACT Lab (AA 132). We will schedule these hours the first
week of class. You can also drop in anytime during our open hours.
Instructor: Norma Letinsky
Phone: 378-1547
e-mail: nletinsky@vcccd.net
Office hours: TuTh Fri 8:30 -10
Course Description:
This course is a self-paced, individualized keyboarding class for
students who have special needs or require assistive technology.
In this class, you can either learn to use the keyboard with all
your fingers without watching your hands (if you are a beginner),
or improve your speed and accuracy if you can already touch type.
For those of you who "stress out" over such things, you
will be relieved to learn that there will be NO timed tests, although
we will keep track of your progress, speed, and accuracy.
You may also learn some basic computer skills as you develop your
keyboarding skills.
We will be using an excellent keyboarding program called Micro Type
Multimedia.
Required Materials:
*You will be given one 3.5" diskette, which will record the
data from your lessons. It is not to be taken out of the classroom-leave
it in the box by the door when you leave.
*Please bring a pen or pencil each time you come to class. There
is no required textbook. J
Grading:
This course is offered on a credit/no credit basis only. Your grade
will be based on attendance, effort, and progress toward your stated
goals. You must have at least 75% attendance to receive a passing
grade. Attendance is based on hours logged in the lab, and a final
evaluation with the instructor.
Student Responsibilities:
* Be sure to log in and
log out correctly each time you come to the lab.
* At the end of each
lesson record your scores on the Progress Tracking Sheet in your
folder, so you should always bring a pen or pencil with you to class.
* Before going on to
the next lesson, you must check with the instructor. I want to see
how you are doing, and preview the next lesson with you.
* PLEASE ask for help
whenever you need it. We will be happy to help you!
*Please notify the instructor if you are unable to attend class.
Missed time should be made up.
EXCESSIVE
ABSENCES: Five
or more unexcused absences will result in your being dropped from
the class. (This is the college policy.)
Please note: If you have a learning, attention, physical, or psychological
disability that may require classroom or test accommodations, please
let me know as soon as possible. If you have not already done so,
please register with the ACCESS Office. Verification of disability
by ACCESS is required before any classroom or testing accommodations
can be made.
Happy Keyboarding!
