Internships
& Career Development
Through the internship program, students learn how to apply
their classroom skills in a real-world environment. Interior
Design student Jaime Catania developed her Ethan Allen Home
Interiors internship opportunity into a full-time position
as a visual-merchandising manager. The basic and advanced
classes gave Jaime the practical skills needed to complete
her job successfully.
“Classes on fabrics, textures and colors were helpful,
but learning about the history of furniture, how to draw floor
plans, how to give presentations, how to secure quotes from
contractors was very important. My
classes were very thorough and prepared me for my Interior
Design career.”
Kimberly Riley parlayed her Moorpark College classes and
experience into an interior designer assistant job while she
completed her bachelor’ s degree at California State
University, Chico.
“My upper division classes built upon what I had been
taught at Moorpark College, and my associate’s degree
enabled me to get a paid internship as I worked on my Interior
Design major.”
Donna Boyd credits her associate’s degree as “opening
the door” to her career at Garrett & Yops Interiors
in Westlake Village, California.
“Every
class there, I definitely needed: floorplans, fabrics, styles,
periods of furniture. I learned how to pull things together.”
Moorpark College graduate Lisa Smith finds her
internship experience invaluable in her current work at Garrett
& Yops Interiors.
“My internship (at Decorating Wizards) gave me hands-on
experience in the field, learning how to interact with clients
and how to approach a project.”
The Interior Design job placement and internship programs
works with additional industry leaders, including: Showcase
Kitchens and Baths, Home Depot and the Lamp Show.
