Offense in high gear at San Diego Tourney for the Lady Raiders . The Lady Raiders bats were alive this past weekend in the San Diego Tourney as they won four of the five games they played improving their overall season record to 25-11.  The Lady Raiders defeated Imperial Valley 13-3, Rio Hondo 9-4, San Diego City 5-3, Imperial Valley again 12-0, before losing to LA Harbor 12-7. Neumann's 5 home runs are second on the team to Bryanne Schwartz who has 6.  Schwartz had a triple and two home runs in the tourney, and Michelle Zakosek had 9 hits including 4 doubles.  Pitcher Bonnie Ward also had a great tourney as she won 3 games, and also hit a triple and had 2 home runs while driving in 9 runs.

Lady Raiders split double header with Santa Barbara. The Lady Raiders remained in first place in the WSC North Division after a double header split with Santa Barbara City College losing the first game 3-2 and then winning the next 11-4.  In game one the Lady Raiders had 10 hits yet managed only two runs while leaving 9 runners on base. Game two was a different story as the Raiders scored 11 runs on 13 hits. Bryanne Schwartz was 3 for 4 for the Raiders, while Brittany Gonzalez, Kristen Torres, and Bonnie Ward all contributed two hits apiece. The biggest hit was a three run home run by Taylor Neumann in the bottom of the 6th inning. Ward collected her 18th win of the season as the Raiders record is now 21-0, and 13-4 in the WSC.

Softball sweeps Oxnard in Doubleheader. The first place Lady Raiders softball team swept a doubleheader at Oxnard College winning 1-0 and 9-3.  In the first game pitcher Bonnie Ward struck out eight Condors while pitching her first shut-out of the year.  In a pitchers duel, the scored was tied at 0-0 after six innings. Centerfielder Cayla Nelson then singled in the top of the 7th, and scored on pinch hitter Tara Hale's two out base hit.  Right fielder Bryanne Schwartz also had two hits for the Raiders who improved to 11-3 in WSC play.     In the second game, the Raiders scored a run in the 1st inning, 4 in the 3rd, and 3 more in the 4th to take control of the game at 8-0. Taylor Neumann pitched a complete game earning her third win of the season.  Catcher Tara Hale was 2 for 4 with 2 doubles, and DH Michelle Zakosek and shortstop Brittany Gonzalez also hit two hits for the Raiders.  Leftfielder Kristen Torres was 3 for 4, and Cayla Nelson was 2 for 2 with an RBI. With the two victories, the Raiders reach the 20 win plateau for the first time in five seasons.  They are now 20-8, and 12-3 in Western State Conference games.

Lady Raiders back in 1st place after 10-9 win at Ventura. With first place in the WSC Gold division on the line, the Raiders softball team scored an exciting 10-9 victory over cross town rival Ventura College.  A fired up Raiders team scored in the 1st inning, but the Pirates came right back with a run of their own off Raiders starting pitcher Taylor Neumann. The Raiders then produced their most powerful rally of the season in the top of the 3rd inning when they scored 8 runs to take a 9-1 lead. In the inning the Raiders had 8 consecutive hits with Neumann's bases clearing triple to centerfield ending the scoring. Ventura then chipped away at the lead with 3 runs in the 3rd, and 3 runs in the 4th, but Raider relief pitcher Bonnie Ward kept VC off the scoreboard in the 5th and 6th innings.  The Raiders were just one out away from the win when Ventura tied the game in the bottom of the 7th with a home run.  Now tied at 9, the Raiders were not about to give in.  Neumann lead off the 8th inning with a long double, and outfielder Kristen Torres promptly singled her home with the go ahead run. With the help of a fantastic catch by centerfielder Cayla Nelson, Ward retired the Pirates in the 8th to seal the win. Neumann was 4 for 5 with 2 runs scored and three RBI's, and Torres was 3 for 5. Every Raider in the starting line-up scored a run. Moorpark is now 10-3 in the WSC, and they are 18-8 over-all.

Lady Raiders score dramatic victory on Taylor Neumann's walk-off home run. After falling behind 3-0 in the 5th inning Thursday at Moorpark, the Lady Raiders were not about to give up the fight versus defending WSC Champion Cuesta College.  A spirited rally in the bottom of the 5th was cut short by a bad call, but the Raiders still scored to trail 3-1. Then with two outs in the bottom of the 7th inning, left fielder Becca Grant completed a great at-bat with a walk after fouling off several pitches that could have ended the game.  Shortstop Jamie Yaller followed with a hard hit ball to the hole between shortstop and 3rd base and beat the throw to first base to keep the Lady Raiders hopes alive. That brought pitcher Taylor Neumann to the plate. Neumann had pitched a solid game against the hot hitting Cougars holding them to 3 runs on just six hits through seven innings. However she was in line to be the losing pitcher, but with fate in her own hands she changed all of that with one swing.  After chasing a rise ball from Cuesta ace pitcher Stacie Salazar for strike one, Neumann hit the next pitch high and far over the left field fence setting off a jubilant celebration for the Moorpark players and fans. Neumann had just pitched her first game of the season one week earlier winning at Pierce, and the Cuesta win now improves her record to 2-0. Yaller and Grant were also heavily involved in both scoring rallies for Moorpark as Yaller was 2 for 2 with a run scored, and Grant was 1 for 2 and had the crucial two out walk in the 7th. In the second game of the double header, Cuesta pitcher Chelsie Rodriguez took advantage of an uninspired Lady Raider team that lacked focus and lead the Cougars to a split with a 7-1 win. 3rd place Cuesta is 7-6 in the WSC Gold division and trails 1st place Ventura by 3 games. The Raiders are now 9-3 in the WSC, and fall into 2nd place, ½ game behind the Pirates who they will travel to play in a 1st place showdown game Tuesday the 24th at Ventura College.

Hancock hands the Lady Raiders second conference loss 4-3. Allan Hancock College handed the Lady Raiders only their second loss of the season in WSC play winning  4-3 Tuesday at Moorpark.  Hancock played sparkling defense as shortstop Leanna Corral turned 3 double plays to thwart Raider rallies. The bright spot for the Raiders was outfielder Kristen Torres who continued on her torrid hitting tear as she had three doubles.  In her last 18 at bats, Torres has 11 hits, 5 doubles, 2 home runs, 6 runs scored and 6 runs batted in. 2nd baseman Brittany Gonzalez also had two hits. The Raiders, 16-7 overall, are still in 1st place in the WSC Gold Division with a conference record of 8-2, but Ventura is now just ½ behind at 8-3.

Torres leads the Lady Raiders to win over Mt San Jacinto 11-3. Sophomore Kristen Torres lead a 10 hit attack Monday as the Lady Raiders defeated Mt San Jacinto College in a non-conference game at Ventura College. Torres hit a home run and doubled while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. Jenn Irvine also scored 2 runs and had 2 r.b.i.'s as the Raiders scored 4 runs in the 1st inning, and 5 in the 2nd inning, and never looked back.  The game ended after 5 innings due to the 8 run mercy rule. Michelle Zakosek pitched the final 3 innings to pick up the win allowing just one earned run on 5 hits. Jamie Yaller started for the Raiders and allowed one run in 2 innings before Zakosek took over in the 3rd.  The Raiders are now 16-6 overall.

First Place Raiders sweep double header at Pierce. The Lady Raiders pulled off a dramatic double header sweep at LA Pierce College Thursday to improve their WSC league leading record to 8-1.  In the opening game, freshman Jamie Yaller was outstanding in the circle pitching a complete game and the Raiders offense was powered by 2nd baseman Kristen Torres, and shortstop Brittany Gonzalez who both hit home runs in a three run second inning. Yaller struck out five Pierce batters while earning her first win of the season.

In the second game, the Raiders jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings but Pierce chased starting pitcher Bonnie Ward in the bottom of the third inning with a six run rally. Ward, who has been fighting through injuries, had a terrific start striking out four of the first six batters she faced before the Brahmas got to her. The score remained 6-4 through the middle innings thanks to the effort of Raiders starting catcher Taylor Neumann who was called on to pitch for the first time this season.  Neumann was fantastic allowing just three hits and no runs in the 4 and 2/3 innings she pitched. Her teammates earned her the win when they rallied for seven runs in the top of the 7th inning. Brittany Gonzalez provided the key hit in the inning with a clutch two out single that scored the tying and go ahead runs. Gonzalez, Michelle Zakosek, and Tara Hale all had two hits for the Raiders, and Kristen Torres had three hits as the Raiders totaled 13 for the game. They are now 15-6 overall and 8-1 in WSC play.

Final inning rally leads to win at Santa Barbara. With their bats coming alive just in time for the win, the Raiders scored a 6-1 victory at Santa Barbara Tuesday to stay in first place in the WSC. The Lady Raiders scored a run in the 1st inning and held that lead until Santa Barbara scored in the bottom of the 4th to tie the game at 1-1.  Pitcher Bonnie Ward kept the Raiders tied with a strong effort allowing just three hits to the Vaqueros, but the Raiders bats could not produce a run. They came alive in the top of the 7th inning though, scoring five runs to enable Ward to get the win and the Raiders to remain in first place. Leading the way for Moorpark on offense were outfielders Kristen Torres, two hits including a double, and Bryanne Schwartz, three hits and three runs batted in, and  3rd baseman Michelle Zakosek  who also had two hits and improved her WSC league leading batting average to .415.  Moorpark is now 13-6, and 6-1 in the WSC.

Tough times in Fresno Tourney for softball team. Battling assorted injuries and missing two key starters from their line-up proved to be a tough obstacle for the Lady Raiders softball team this past weekend as they went 1-3 at the Fresno Tourney.  The Raiders opened with a 9-2 loss to highly ranked Sierra, and then lost 5-4 to West Hills before winning their final pool play game 9-3 over Butte.

Michelle Zakosek had two hits against Sierra, and catcher Taylor Neumann was 3 for 3 against West Hills but the Raiders managed only 11 hits total in both games. In the win over Butte, Tara Hale was 3 for 3, and Neumann had two more hits.

The Lady Raiders lost their opening elimination round game to Allan Hancock 14-5 after going to the 7th inning tied 5-5.  Their overall record drops to 12-6.

Lady Raiders score thrilling win over Canyons. In a battle of front running WSC teams, the Lady Raiders scored a thrilling 5-2 victory over College of the Canyons Tuesday at Moorpark. Both teams came into the game 5-1 in WSC play with Canyons leading the Blue Division, and Moorpark leading the Gold Division. After falling behind 2-0 in the 1st inning, the Raiders fought back with a run in the 2nd, and four runs in the 4th inning to go ahead 5-2. Pitcher Bonnie Ward was sensational in holding that lead, keeping the Canyons batters off balance and allowing only three hits.  The entire offense was alive for Moorpark with Jenn Irvine, Michelle Zakosek, and Cayla Nelson all tallying two hits, and the Raiders had 10 hits in all.  They improve to 5-1 in the WSC and 11-3 overall.

Double header split for Raiders at Santa Ana. The Lady Raiders split a non-conference double header at Santa Ana with a 6-3 win over Chaffey College and a 7-4 loss to host Santa Ana.  In the Chaffey game Jenn Irvine was 3 for 3, and Rebecca Grant and Jamie Yaller both had two hits for the Raiders.  Bonnie Ward gave up just two hits and one run over five innings while earning the win, and Yaller pitched the final two innings to earn the save.

Against Santa Ana, Irvine and Grant each had two more hits, and catcher Tara Hale was 3 for 4, but that was not enough as the Raiders saw their record fall to 10-3 overall.

First place Lady Raiders beat LA Valley. Scoring a big 8-6 win at LA Valley College, the Lady Raiders improved their record to 4-1 in the WSC and continue to hold the conference lead. Schwartz was 3 for 3 and the Raiders had 10 hits in all.  Left fielder Rebecca Grant had a double, scored two runs, and had two rbi's, and 2nd baseman Brittany Gonzalez, and 3rd baseman Michelle Zakosek also had two rbi's each.

Shortstop Jamie Yaller was equally outstanding with a 4 for 5 performance, scoring once and driving in three runs.  In all, the Raiders had seven different players with at least one hit and one run scored as the balanced attack was too much for host Rio Hondo.
